OUR HISTORY

ZINGSA was officially launched on July 10, 2018, by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as part of Zimbabwe's broader strategy to become a middle-income economy by 2030. The agency supports this goal by creating technology hubs and fostering innovation across the country. The first major project was the launch of ZimSat-1, Zimbabwe's first earth observation satellite, which became operational in 2023, enhancing capabilities in environmental monitoring, disaster management, and agricultural assessments.

Mandate

ZINGSA's mandate includes geospatial science and earth observation, utilizing satellite data for environmental monitoring, agriculture, disaster management, and urban planning. Additionally, it focuses on space engineering and technology, developing and deploying satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for various applications. Enhancing communication systems and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) within Zimbabwe is also a key part of their mission.
