Established as a statutory body under the Research Act [Chapter 10:22], ZINGSA stands at the forefront of advancing space science and technology within the nation and beyond. With a resolute commitment to promoting the peaceful use of space, ZINGSA spearheads initiatives that span the breadth of geospatial science, earth observation, space engineering, and beyond.
OUR HISTORY
ZINGSA was officially launched on July 10, 2018, by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as part of Zimbabwe's broader strategy to become a middle-income economy by 2030. The agency supports this goal by creating technology hubs and fostering innovation across the country. The first major project was the launch of ZimSat-1, Zimbabwe's first earth observation satellite, which became operational in 2023, enhancing capabilities in environmental monitoring, disaster management, and agricultural assessments.
