ZINGSA's Participation in the Pan-Africa Asteroid Search Campaign

ZINGSA (Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency) is actively involved in the Pan-Africa Asteroid Search Campaign, an initiative organized by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC). The IASC, an outreach program supported by NASA, enables students, amateur astronomers, and research institutions across Africa to participate in asteroid discovery and tracking, contributing to planetary defense efforts.

As part of the campaign, ZINGSA collaborates with other African space agencies and institutions to analyze astronomical data, identify new asteroids, and monitor near-Earth objects (NEOs). This engagement not only bolsters ZINGSA’s role in space research but also fosters technical skills and STEM education in Zimbabwe. Through such initiatives, ZINGSA contributes to the global scientific community’s efforts in tracking potentially hazardous asteroids, emphasizing the importance of regional collaboration in planetary defense and space exploration.
